There are two portraits of soldiers at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin; this is one of them.  I remember walking up to them, looking at the people, and thinking that they both looked like scared kids, put in uniforms and sent to fight in a cold war that nobody really understood.  Perhaps that’s what they call “history.”
